The Koelbl brothers, Stephen and Justin (sponsored in the US by "Blue Competition Cycles" out of Atlanta, Georgia, "The Bike Stop" out of Culpeper, Virginia and STPI out of Fairfax, Virginia), joined a prestigious French U23 development team, G.S.C. Blagnac, with whom they will race for much of the 2008 season. The city of Blagnac is located adjacent to the city of Toulouse in Southern France. This 110 year old development team has produced Tour de France and World Champions such as Laurent Jalabert, David Moncoutié, and Nicolas Portal.

In February and March of this year, Stephen and Justin Koelbl traveled to France to participate in the French club's week long training camp in Spain, as well as the kick off to their 2008 season with two French National races in Southern France. The reception and friendship the Koelbl brothers received from the French club, the local communities, and the French press was extraordinary. The club's President (Patrick Docteur) and the club leader (Michel Frostin) were at the Toulouse airport to welcome and greet Stephen and Justin. The Koelbl brothers presented the club with a Virginia Cycling Association (VCA) Omnium Championship jersey as a gift from VCA. This was received very well by the club executives, who plan to frame the jersey. The G.S.C. Blagnac club house is filled with framed jerseys from famous French riders who were past members of the club. USA Cycling pins provided by USA Cycling were presented by Stephen and Justin to team members, coaches, and dignitaries. These were hotly sought after gifts!

From the airport, the Koelbl brothers were driven to the Regional Offices of the French Cycling Federation (FFC), where they were "presented" to the regional FFC president. This was followed by a photo session for several local and regional newspapers. The Mayor of the city of Blagnac held a reception for Stephen and Justin at city hall, where they were presented with gifts from the city and interviewed by the French press. Several articles were published in French newspapers about "Les Freres Koelbl" ("The Koelbl Brothers") and the "Deux Cycliste Americane" ("Two American Cyclists"). On the last day of the team's training camp in Spain, the editor of VeloVert (the equivalent of the US's "Velo News") joined in a training ride with the team and the Koelbl brothers. Overall, an exceptional welcome and experience to start the 2008 season with the "American Brothers' " new French team.
